Denver, Boulder, and Grand Junction Monthly Meetings: Laurie Manwell and Kevin Danaher, Nov/Dec 2011

For this month’s gathering, we will show video footage of two very interesting talks given in different cities on September 11, 2011, the tenth anniversary of 9/11.  Anyone who has felt concern that the truth of 9/11 will never become mainstream (and haven’t we all?) needs to see these talks.  Each in its own way, they demonstrate how incredibly far the 9/11 Truth movement has come.  Scientific study and the compilation of factual evidence will continue, and there was a lot of that at the Toronto Hearings over the tenth anniversary period, but these talks are of a different kind.  Our two speakers demonstrate new dimensions of the Truth movement that have evolved during the last few years, as 9/11 Truth moves into the wider culture.

SCADs (State Crimes Against Democracy) and Psychological Resistance to Alternative Accounts

Laurie Manwell, Ph.D. Candidate in Behavioural Neuroscience and Toxicology at the University of Guelph, near Toronto

In this one-hour talk given at the Toronto Hearings during the tenth anniversary week, Laurie Manwell helps us to understand how deceptions such as 9/11 and similar crimes enable the state to “sell” what Laurie calls “democracy for the few” to the broader public, and get them to pay for it.  By a sophisticated emotional manipulation, the state portrays American aggression as pro-democratic and aggression by others as authoritarian, thus justifying increasingly aggressive state behaviors.  Social scientists, academics, and experts are clearly catching on to this game, studying how it works in the minds and emotions of the public at large, and exposing its deceptive logic.  This reflects the next stage of the Truth movement, as we become more skillful at unraveling the resistance to the truth in our culture.  But Laurie’s talk is far from a dry, intellectual presentation.  She is as passionate as she is academic.  Citing incidents from her own life and making many connections between our personal and global lives, she provides us with a rousing call to unmask the criminals of 9/11 for who they are.  Laurie also invites the shoddy journalists of our time to wrestle with her over what really happened on 9/11, and warns them that she holds a black belt in kung fu.  (62 minutes including Q/A)

Learning from 9/11

Kevin Danaher, Ph.D., author and anti-globalization activist, co-founder of Global Exchange, founder and executive co-producer of the Green Festivals

Next we will see Kevin Danaher speaking at the 9/11 tenth anniversary event in San Francisco, which was titled “9/11: Reclaiming the Truth, Reclaiming our Future.”   It is simply remarkable to see someone of Kevin’s stature as a progressive activist speaking with profound clarity about 9/11 Truth.  In addition to explaining the role of 9/11 in the history of US empire, Kevin discusses the psychological resistance to 9/11 Truth he has encountered even among his progressive friends.  He relates how activists with whom he has worked for years and with whom he has been arrested doing civil disobedience actions have had a really hard time coming to grips with the truth about 9/11, but that more and more of them are now doing so.  Kevin Danaher combines a great wit with a spine of steel, and you’ll enjoy this talk.  As one of the best known and most respected progressive activists in the world, he is a tremendous ally to the 9/11 Truth effort, and this talk is a great one to share with any of our progressive friends still sitting on the fence about 9/11. Actions in Colorado on the Tenth Anniversary of 9/11

by Fran Shure and Tim Boyle

September 24, 2011

On the afternoon of 9/11, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock were hosting “Colorado Remembers 9/11,” a large, patriotic memorial to the lives lost on 9/11 and a tribute to our military at Denver’s Civic Center Park, which lies between the gold-domed State Capitol building and the County Court House.  There would be military flyovers, taps, a firing salute, a children’s chorale singing the national anthem, a Beach Boys concert, and all the patriotic, nationalistic fervor of a nation remembering the terrible attacks of ten years earlier.  Thirty thousand people showed up.  The ceremony began with a procession of flags, drums, and bagpipes, and hundreds of police, firefighters, first responders, and military personnel.   A traveling memorial of bent and twisted steel from the twin towers draped with a huge American flag brought to mind the violence and devastation of that day in Manhattan.  Police were everywhere, and snipers could be seen brandishing weapons on nearby rooftops.

A few days earlier, the Colorado 9/11 Visibility team and We Are Change Colorado were planning how to get some truth out at such an occasion.  Imagining a crowd deeply steeped in the official story passing the beer and calling for more militarism, there was some trepidation about trying to flyer or hand out DVDs.  We weren’t sure how the Truth message would be received.

The fifty activists who came for this special event walked with some trepidation into the park in single file with their banners, divided into several smaller groups, and spread out among the crowd in various locations. Some of their signs read “Honor the Victims with the Truth,”  “Over 1,000 Architects and Engineers Demand a Real 9/11 Investigation,” “Did You Know Three NY Skyscrapers Fell on 9/11?,” “Honor the victims with an independent international investigation into 9/11,” “Investigate 9/11 Now,” “9/11: Do we want to know the truth?,” “The War on Terror is a Hoax,” “9/11 Was An Inside Job,” and “Wake Up!”

But it turned out the crowd was mostly there to relax in the late summer sun and enjoy the Beach Boys.  To the pleasant surprise of the activists, people started reading the signs with interest.  Excited to see us there, a few people even emerged from the audience to help hold the banners and signs.  A crowd favorite was the WTC7 banner which explained how the building collapsed.  All afternoon, people at the event read that sign and then asked for a DVD and flyer.  For many, this was the first time they had heard about controversial Building 7.

Each of the small groups had a similar experience.  Many friendly conversations ensued as members of the public asked questions, thanked the activists for being there, and shared their own awareness.   While the huge majority of comments were favorable, there were a few of the usual verbal taunts, which were allowed to pass without incident.  One particularly ironic joust was directed to an activist of Lakota Sioux heritage.  “Go back to your own country!”  Although it may have been lost on the intolerant individual to whom it was directed, without missing a beat the activist responded, “This is my country!”  The activists distributed over 1500 DVDs with flyers, including many copies of 9/11: Blueprint for Truth.

Three days earlier, on September 8, Colorado 9/11 Visibility and We Are Change Colorado returned to the site of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder for a late afternoon action.   They took up their posts on the sidewalk in front of NIST at an intersection where their banners would be seen by hundreds of NIST employees leaving work for the day and by thousands of motorists on busy Broadway Avenue. Tenth Anniversary Message From Interlink Publisher: September 2011

September 11, 2001 is a date forever etched in our collective memory. No one can forget what happened on that fateful day: the horrific attacks, the innocent people who died when the towers collapsed; the bravery and heroic sacrifices of rescue workers and service men and women; and, not in the least, the death, destruction, and consequences of the morally and legally unjustified wars that ensued.

But as we remember, it is our responsibility as citizens to question our government and demand answers that would explain what really happened as well as how 9/11 was used to take us to war. Are you able to say that the official story gives you an objective understanding of what happened that day? Are you satisfied with the 9/11 Commission Report that left out any reference to the collapse of WTC 7, which was not hit by a plane and fell systematically at freefall speed? And what about those glaring contradictions and inconsistencies in the government’s story and the blind endorsement of the official explanation by the mainstream media?

I, like many Americans, am a skeptic—not a lunatic, a nutcase, or a conspiracy theorist. And I am thankful to David Ray Griffin whose extraordinarily well-reasoned and meticulously  researched books continue to demolish the official account and demand a thorough, independent investigation. His just released book 9/11 Ten Years Later is a must-read, albeit a painfully disturbing one, for anyone in support of a full, rigorous inquiry, without which many questions shall remain unanswerable.
